Norton Park
Provision of a Building Passport for a vital third sector business centre
Norton Park is comprised of two buildings: a former Victorian School and an inter-war church situated cross the car park from Hibernian Football Club’s Easter Road stadium.
The old School was converted in the 1990s to be a Business Centre. Since then it has provided space for third sector organisations - charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups. Many of Edinburgh’s most significant and impactful organisations are either based in Norton Park or have passed through it.
The old Church was converted to a conference centre in the early 2000s, which acts as a complimentary space to the Business Centre.
The Business Centre was ground-breaking when first converted, with a rainwater harvesting system and heat-exchangers behind the roof slates. In the decades since the building has been subject to a well organised maintenance regime, with significant sums spent on the windows, stonework, and roof maintenance. At time of survey the Conference Centre was undergoing a re-roofing project.
Eala provided a Building Passport, which included a review of the condition of all parts of both buildings and a costed 30 year plan for them. This foundational document, provided in PDF and excel, provides a baseline of condition and a holistic plan that the client can use to set service charges, seek funding, and start design work in preparation for any major renewals required.
