Gympanzees Bristol
Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the most socially impactful of charities
Gympanzees is a Bristol-based charity who exist to attend to the challenge of helping disabled children be active. Their wonderful website explains the broad impacts of this for their wider families and support groups, and on their overall quality of life. Gympanzees are currently the only organisation of their kind in the UK, and provide a service which is genuinely life-changing.
Gympanzees have acquired the former Severn View service station on the English side of the Severn crossing at Aust. This large building with extensive grounds has its own history as an early home for the then-glamorous activity of motoring. Now an empty shell, it promises to be Gympazees permanent home, which will enable them to help more of their community as well as being an exemplar helping to promote this sort of service across the country.
Eala were employed to provide a Whole Life Carbon Assessment for the project. This gave us an opportunity to present the triple bottom line impacts of maintainable materials on the local economy. We also calculated the carbon emissions of Gympanzees constructing a new building versus refurbishing an existing one, concluding that this reduced emissions by at least 4,500 tonnes of carbon.
