Broomton Road Glasgow

40 to 48 Broomton Road in Glasgow is the only remaining building from a post-war housing estate in north east Glasgow. It comprises eight ground floor retail units, with four flats above. It is now surrounded by new-build houses and low-rise apartment blocks. The building was originally intended to be a local centre for the community, and for many years half the ground floor was given over to a community centre and cafe.

Having been neglected for many years, Homes for Good - Scotland’s only not-for-profit letting agency - were able to acquire it. As specialists in turning around empty properties and letting them to those in need, Homes for Good asked Eala for support in looking at the wider picture for the property, its role in the wider community and Homes for Good’s broader business. Eala carried out a building survey and prepared a Building Passport and Feasibility Study. This exercise helped Homes for Good to prioritise their resources where the building was concerned, making the most of the funding available now whist using their significant capacity to fund-raise and create an impactful vision and momentum towards it for the future.
