Masterplanning.

No building is an island. Wherever it is, it is connected to the land, infrastructure, other buildings, and community around it. By understanding this context and making sure any plan takes all of this into account we can amplify the positive impact of any work we do. That may be gaining economies of scale, empowering a community, or establishing local energy networks.

By understanding this wider context, and by acting up-stream and early, we have helped communities and individuals avoid many of the problems which seem so intractable. We can avoid insulating buildings if we can move uses around. We can avoid calculating carbon if we can reduce travel. We can solve financial problems by improving societies, and fix the environment at the same time. We can avoid unintended consequences by looking with suitable breadth and creativity. Working strategically does though need a regular connection to the detail, so our masterplans are always linked to our Building Passports and understanding of maintenance, design, and delivery.
